A Local Static are an 80s-inspired synth-rock band from the Outer Hebrides, blending big guitars, analogue synths, driving rhythms and traditional fiddle into something nostalgic without sounding stuck in the past.

Built around the song writing of Keith Morrison, the band draws on the widescreen energy of classic 80s rock and pop while bringing in the atmosphere, stories and musical identity of island life. Think glowing synths, huge choruses, melodic guitar lines and fiddle cutting through the middle of it all.

Their debut single “Find a Reason” arrived in 2026, introducing a sound shaped by childhood memories, late-night drives, old televisions, cassette tapes and growing up on the edge of the Atlantic.

Live, A Local Static features Keith Morrison on vocals, guitar and synths, Andy Murray on lead guitar, Ruaraidh Macleod on bass, guitars and synths, and Bethany Beattie on fiddle.

Influences

A Local Static draws heavily on the huge melodies, guitars and synths of the 1980s — the kind of music built for car stereos, arena stages and choruses you know after one listen. There are shades of Whitesnake, Wolfstone, Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Journey and Foreigner, alongside the widescreen synth textures and atmosphere of that era.

The band also takes inspiration from modern artists who have found new ways of using those sounds, bringing an 80s sensibility into contemporary production rather than simply recreating the past.

Running through it all is the music of the Outer Hebrides. Traditional fiddle and the melodies of Scottish and Gaelic music sit naturally alongside electric guitars, analogue synths and big drums, giving A Local Static a sound that comes as much from where the band is from as from what they grew up listening to.
